Things To Do Before Getting Out Of Bed

Waking up in the morning is one of those blessings that many of us tend to take for granted. We often get up (perhaps after pressing snooze a couple times) and start rushing about our day, whatever that entails for each of us. But I find that the morning can be a great time to set the tone for the day and give ourselves some extra love. Here are some of my favourite tips for getting out of bed and starting the day right.

  • Be Grateful

Express gratitude in any way that you can, for anything that you can. Some days I find myself appreciating the ‘simple’ fact that I opened my eyes. On other days I turn over to my boyfriend and am grateful he’s in bed with me, or my dog is sleeping in the room, or there’s a roof over my head, and so on. It’s quite easy to just take things for granted, so genuinely being grateful for something first thing in the morning can only do us good.

  • Set The Intention For The Day

You can set an intention for how you want to feel today or what to want to achieve. You’ll find that simply setting an intention makes you much more likely to make decisions throughout the day that support that intention. You can also remind yourself of your intention during the day when weighing whether or not something should be done. If it goes against your intention then save it for another day (or let it go).

  • Take Deep Breaths

You can do this lying down, while stretching or doing some basic yoga moves – the choice is yours. Just find a comfortable position to take a few deep breaths, which will help you feel grateful and calm. Busy people often say that they don’t have time to do this step, which is exactly why they need it.

  • Smile!

This ties in with being grateful (heck, shouldn’t everything?). Think of something that makes you feel good and smile a smile that’s just for yourself. Smile the silliest, biggest smile you can. You might even find something to laugh about, and that’s a great start to the day.
